UPDATE: GBI investigating after 35-year-old man shoots East Dublin officer at trailer park

The shooter, identified as 35-year-old Jermaine Fountain, is charged with with one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one count of aggravated assault

DUBLIN, Ga. — UPDATE, 8:30 p.m.:

According to the GBI, the East Dublin Police Department asked for help in investigating after two people were shot, including a police officer.

A release from the GBI says the call came in around 2:30 p.m. Monday about shots fired in the Ponderosa Trailer Park on Corbett Street. When the officer made it to Lot 18, he was immediately shot as he was getting out of his patrol car.

The officer shot back at the shooter, identified as 35-year-old Jermaine Fountain. The investigation found that Fountain had been shooting at mobile homes inside the trailer park before the officer arrived.

Both Fountain and the officer were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Fountain was taken to Atrium Health Navicent, the Medical Center. He is charged with one count of aggravated assault on a peace officer and one count of aggravated assault. Additional charges are pending.

The officer has been treated and released.

The GBI will conduct an independent investigation. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Dublin Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office for review.

This is the 10th officer involved shooting the GBI has been requested to investigate in 2023.

The GBI is investigating a reported shooting of an east Dublin police officer.

It happened at the Ponderosa trailer park on Broad Street.

Officers from east Dublin, the GBI, and other agencies are on scene, and there's crime scene tape marking several houses.

So far, the GBI is not releasing any further details on what happened or on the officer's condition.
